Ethics and Integrity in Debt Management

By Shawn Frank

Ethics and Integrity in Debt Management

There are some words, like ETHICS and INTEGRITY that get thrown around so often that they start to lose their meaning.  Information has become infotainment, and journalism has become propaganda. Everybody has an agenda.  It’s gotten to the point that people have become desensitized to anyone claiming to hold a standard of ethics or integrity.  Much the same way consumers don’t really believe the word FREE when they see it in advertisements.  And though many claim be possess ethics and integrity, their actions speak otherwise.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

When you’re living with the daily stress of overwhelming debt, your biggest concern is how to get rid of it.  It’s a good goal to have, but unfortunately it also leaves you open to people and companies who claim to share your goal, but don’t really have your best interest in mind.  Despite what they say they aren’t interested in helping you recover from your debt, they’re not looking to find ways to relieve the pressure of living with debt, or help you pick up the pieces.  The fact is, they aren’t even working for you.  They are working for your creditors, and their goal is to get back every cent you owe, whether you have it or not.  Regardless of the havoc this will cause.

Who’s Looking Out for You?

You wouldn’t buy a house without checking out the neighbourhood and hiring a good home inspector. So don’t hand your life over to the first debt relief company offering you a rosy future.  Do your homework.  Research and ask direct questions like ‘who do you work for?’ and ‘is this my only or best options?’ And listen, carefully, not just to what you are being told, but to what isn’t being said.  Your debt may have left you feeling worthless, but you are entitled to getting the best help available and to being treated with respect, not judgement.

4 Pillars Debt Solutions has been helping Canadians in since 2004.  In fact over 97% of their clients have stayed out of debt, making 4 Pillars one of the industry leaders.
